So far, 5 running for 5 Ketchum seats

Deadline to file is Friday

Five people have filed declarations of candidacy to run for Ketchum City Council seats as of late Tuesday morning. If no more candidates file, all of them could take a place on the city's governing board.

Current Mayor Randy Hall, current council members Nina Jonas and Baird Gourlay, Advocates for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault board member Neil Morrow and resident Mickey Garcia have filed to run.

Ketchum voters will decide on Election Day, Nov. 8, whether to change the form of government to a council-manager type. Voters also will be asked to choose five council members from those on the ballot. If the council-manager form of government is approved, the top three vote-getters will serve four-year terms; the next two will serve two-year terms.

Council members would select a mayor from among the new council.

If the new system is rejected, voters will decide in May who should fill two City Council seats under the current system, those held by Larry Helzel and Curtis Kemp.

Ketchum Mayor Randy Hall said he's running again because the term he was elected for is not complete.

"I was hired to do a four-year job," he said. "I want to finish the promise I made to the community two years ago. I'm only halfway through it."

Declarations of candidacy in all Idaho towns must be filed with the relevant city clerk's office by Friday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m.
