Celebrate demise of airport plan

"Bombshell rocks plan for new airport" was the headline in the Idaho Mountain Express. We should all celebrate that news.

That should be a lesson to those who want to benefit by demanding that others pay for that benefit. Any logical-thinking person will realize that it was not a "bombshell," but a boon to the area. We should all be thankful that the FAA did not get conned into paying more and correctly concluded that neither the FAA nor the local community could afford such lavish waste!

I am not sure why the Airport Authority did not understand what the FAA stated. Who would want to "chip in" more than $162 million to satisfy the whims of a few illogical thinkers. "Chip in," as stated in the article, seems so casual for such a huge expenditure.

We are all better off that the Airport Authority was "bombed."

Along the same line, the city of Ketchum has "bombed" the community. When the Warm Springs golf course was annexed, there was to be no reduction in recreational facilities. But look at it now. The residents have been deprived of the nicest tennis facilities in the area and an affordable golf course. Instead of keeping the recreational facilities, there is a wasteland created by our mayor, City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission. In their illogical and uncalled-for haste to get hotels, any hotels, built, they have neglected the impact on the very citizens that voted them into office.

To stress the irrational thinking of the Ketchum government, did it make any sense that the city wanted to compete with Sun Valley Co., which they subsidize to the tune of half a million dollars a year?

What is happening to this wonderful area?
