A special tribute to Killebrew at the Thompson

Baseball Hall of Fame slugger Harmon Killebrew was honored with the coveted Chairman’s Award during the 35th annual Danny Thompson Memorial golf tournament awards dinner Friday, Aug. 19 in the Sun Valley Inn Limelight Room. Killebrew died of esophageal cancer in Arizona on May 17 at the age of 74. Along with then-business partner Ralph Harding, Killebrew co-founded the Thompson Memorial in 1977 as a leukemia research fundraiser. Here, Killebrew’s wife, Nita Killebrew (left), accepts a special framed tribute to her late husband from Thompson Memorial board Chair Russ Huffer (right). Georgie Fenton of Ketchum, tournament director for 17 years, said she expects the board to approve a renaming of the tournament to reflect both the Thompson and Killebrew names in the future.
