The city of Sun Valley has earned a national award for its fiscal 2010-11 budget.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, a nonprofit professional association based in Chicago, selected Sun Valley for its Distinguished Budget Presentation award. The announcement was made in a press release dated May 1, though the city did not make the information public until a City Council meeting on Aug. 18.
"The award represents a significant achievement," states a news release issued by the association. "It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting."
To receive the award, a city's budget must be rated as proficient in four categories: as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
"What this indicates is that your, the taxpayers', financial reporting is of the highest quality," Sun Valley Mayor Wayne Willich said during the council meeting.
The association presented City Administrator Sharon Hammer and Finance Director Michelle Frostenson with a certificate of recognition for budget presentation for their key efforts in forming the budget.
