Loretta E. Cartmell


Loretta E. Cartmell, a resident of Blaine Manor, died Aug. 15, 2011, at the age of 100. She was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Chicago, Ill. Loretta graduated from St. Xavier College for Women and was an elementary school teacher until her retirement. Loretta was active in many philanthropic organizations and did volunteer work with children and the developmentally disabled. Loretta will best be remembered for her sense of humor and her loving, caring and gracious ways.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harry F. Cartmell. She is survived by daughters Bonnie Welch of Sunland, Calif., and Bunch Cohan (Chuck) of Ketchum, Idaho; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to all the "angels" at Blaine Manor for their love and support in caring for our mother. To honor Loretta, we ask that you do a small act of kindness for someone each day.

There will be a Mass and private burial in Springfield, Ill.
