Baseball, softball board members are needed

Interested in becoming a board member of the Wood River Baseball and Softball Association? Come to a public meeting today, Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the commons area of The Community Campus in Hailey.

Positions available: President, All-Star Director, Babe Ruth Director, Treasurer, Fundraising coordinator (non-voting position) and Website coordinator (non-voting). The positions begin Jan. 1, 2012.

Heather Colvin of the WRBSA said, "We really need help with the association so if you think you can contribute in any way please attend the informational meeting. Two more teams needed for Coed Wood Bat Softball Tournament Aug. 27-28

Two more teams are needed to bolster the current six-team field for the second annual Coed Wood Bat 1-Pitch Tournament scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27-28 at Hailey's Lions Park. Action starts Saturday at 9 a.m. The two-day tournament will raise money for the Wood River High School softball program. Team fee is $200. Teams are guaranteed three games. Group results of last week's summer-ending 26-player youth tennis tournament at Ketchum's Atkinson Park:

Group A: 1—Jack Keating. 2—Alvaro Jiraldo. 3—Luis Reyes.

Group B: 1—Jenna Nurge. 2—Yancy Egoavil. 3—Nick Maumus.

Group C: 1—Angel Fink. 2—Luke Worst. 3—Jake Gorham.

Spirit n' Motion Athletic School schedules fall classes

Registration is ongoing for fall classes starting Sept. 6 at Spirit n' Motion located across from Power Engineers at 3950 Woodside Blvd. in Hailey and the Wood River Community YMCA.

Classes include the Gymnastics Competitive Team, Soldier Mountain All-Stars Competitive Cheerleaders, Pre-School and Recreational Gymnastics, Tumbling and more.

The school's cheerleading includes the non-competitive Cheer Stars (ages 6-and-up, $50 a month) plus these competitive programs: Green Emeralds (ages 3-5, $50 month), Silver Stars (6-11, $115 month) and Black Diamonds (9-14, $140 per month).

Two make golf aces

Two holes-in-one were reported by local golf clubs:

Michael Johnson, a participant in the Danny Thompson Memorial golf tournament, made his first-ever ace with a gap wedge on the sixth hole at Sun Valley Resort Golf Course Aug. 20. Witnesses were teammates Jesse McCollum, Mitch Watkins and John Grizzaffi.

Jack Dies made his first-ever hole-in-one Tuesday, Aug. 16 on the seventh hole of The Valley Club West Nine, from the Gold Tees using an 8-iron. Witnesses were Alison Shoemaker, Latham Williams and Suzanne Williams.

Martial Arts Academy opens in Bellevue

Bellevue's Lee Anderson is opening a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/Mixed Martial Academy in Bellevue for men, women and children. Planned is a grand opening Sunday, Sept. 4 that is open to the public. Enjoy demonstrations, live music and refreshments at the Bellevue facility, 745 N. Main St. Unit F.

BCRD offers fall youth soccer program

Boys and girls of all abilities are welcome to participate in the Blaine County Recreation District's fall youth soccer program for ages 3-5 and all the way up to the sixth grade.

The program includes three levels—Tyke Soccer Development for ages 3-5, Kindergarten Soccer and Youth Soccer for kids in grades 1-6. Online (bcrd.org) and in-person registrations are being accepted, with late fees after Sept. 10.

Tyke Soccer Development season runs from Sept. 14-Oct. 19 on Wednesdays from 4-4:45 p.m. at Hailey's Nelson Field. It is a clinic-style program (no teams or coaches) with parents participating along with kids.

Kindergarten Soccer meets Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 12-Oct. 19, from 5:15-6:15 p.m. at Nelson Field. Again, it is a clinic-style program.

Youth Soccer for grades 1-6 has coaches, practices at Hailey fields and games on four Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Nelson Field between Sept. 17 and Oct. 22. Each team practices twice a week. A Player's Clinic is Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10-12 at Nelson Field.

Coaches and sponsors are still needed. Contact Brad Musbach at 578-5458 if you're interested. One 60-minute coaches' clinic has been scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Nelson Field.
