Feldman, Galpin repeat as road race champs

On a hot day near Emmett


     Intense heat was a challenge for WoodRiverValley cyclists during the USA Cycling Idaho State Road Racing Championships Aug. 6 near Emmett.

     Richard Feldman of Ketchum (Durance/Colnago) repeated as the 72-mile Select Master champion, finishing his three-hour-plus event as temperatures rose into the 90s. He prevailed by over four minutes.

     Also repeating as Idaho champion in Men’s Cat. 4 was Ketchum’s Nate Galpin (Durance/Colnago) for 52 miles. Placing 11-13-14-15 in Master C for 31 miles were John Swyers, Tom Campion, Roger Miller and Charley French.

     Second in the Aug. 6 road race, Sara Youmans of the Peanut Butter & Co. 2012 team won the St. Luke’s and Intermountain Orthopaedics criterium championship for the Women’s Cat. 3/4 class Aug. 7 at Hidden Springs near Boise.

     John Swyers placed second in the Men’s Master 65-plus criterium and Erik Kafka was 12th in Master Men’s A class.
