The Hunger Coalition will host the second annual Harvest of Hope Celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Hope Garden in Hailey. The evening will honor the volunteers, donors and community members who support the organization's efforts throughout the year.
The Harvest of Hope Celebration will include free live music, small tastes of freshly prepared food, cold beverages and kids activities, all in the beautiful setting of the Hope Garden in downtown Hailey. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. The celebration is open to all.
According to a press release from The Hunger Coalition, the purpose of the event is to educate the public on local hunger issues and bring awareness to The Hunger Coalition's programs while celebrating the community's participation in their efforts to feed the hungry.
Started in spring 2010, the Hope Garden produces organically grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs for families and individuals in Blaine County facing hunger. In its first growing season, the Hope Garden contributed more than 1,200 pounds of produce to The Hunger Coalition's Mobile Food Bank Program, providing 180 to 350 local families with vital food assistance every month, year-round. The 10,000-square-foot lot at Walnut Street and First Avenue in Hailey is planted, nurtured and harvested by dedicated community volunteers and Hunger Coalition staff.
Live music by Slow Children Playing will provide the evening's entertainment along with chefs preparing sample tastes. They will include Derek Gallegos from 310 Main, Sayvour's Chef Nadine and Callie and Maeme Rasberry of Rasberrys. Restaurants and vendors will also include Lava Lake Lamb, Full Moon Catering and Sun Valley Brewery. Children will be able to enjoy face painting, games and crafts or take a self-guided garden tour with their parents to learn about the more than 52 varieties of vegetables, fruits and herbs planted in the Hope Garden. A no-host beer and wine tent will be available for those over 21. For details, call 788-0121.
