The Idaho Mountain Express has hired a new arts editor to manage the weekly Arts & Events section in the Wednesday newspaper.

Bellevue resident Jennifer Liebrum, a longtime Wood River Valley journalist and editor, started in the position Monday, Aug. 8. Former arts editor Sabina Dana Plasse, who held the post for five years, stepped down on Friday, Aug. 5. Plasse plans to stay in the Wood River Valley to pursue freelance writing projects.

Liebrum has been working for the Express' parent company, Express Publishing, since January, as the interim editor of the Sun Valley Guide magazine. Her work with the magazine will terminate at the end of this month when the longtime magazine editor, Jennifer Tuohy, returns from maternity leave.

Liebrum has lived in the Wood River Valley for 10 years. She formerly worked as managing editor of Sun Valley Magazine and as a reporter and editor for the former Wood River Journal newspaper in Hailey. Before moving to the valley, she worked as a reporter for the Desert Sun newspaper in Palm Springs, Calif., and for the Houston Chronicle. She has a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.

"We were thrilled to be able to hire such a qualified journalist locally," said Express Editor Greg Foley. "Knowing the valley and its people is a critical aspect of this important and demanding job."

As arts editor, Liebrum will be in charge of managing all of the content in the Arts & Events section and the newspaper calendar. She will also contribute regularly to the Living section in the Express' Friday edition.
