Sign up for Shop to the Top

Climb of Baldy Aug. 20


The Elephant's Perch of Ketchum is holding its annual Shop to the Top climb of Baldy on Saturday, Aug. 20 and registration is being accepted.

Two distances are offered.

They are the six-mile "Race Class" competitive run covering 3,300 vertical feet from the Perch in downtown Ketchum to Baldy's summit, and the five-mile "Sport Class" walk or casual run over 3,200 vertical feet from River Run Lodge to the top of the mountain.

Weather permitting, participants can take the Sun Valley Resort chairlift down the hill.

Register online at active.com for $25 per person until midnight Thursday, Aug. 18. Also register at the Perch until that date. Late entries will be accepted at the Perch, only, Friday, Aug. 19 for $35. No race day entries will be accepted.

There will be awards for fastest man and woman in each class and prize drawings for all. Please, don't bring your dog along for the climb.

Last August there were 77 finishers. That total included 26 in the "Race Class" led by Boise's 47-year-old Alan Newton 57:54 and Abbie Harris 1.17:18. There were 51 finishers in "Sport Class" led by Bill Nurge 58:56 and Jennifer Schwartz 1.09:44.
