How many errands can you run in an hour? And how much faster can you do it by walking or riding a bike than someone driving a car? Test your skills today, Aug. 3, at the "Errand Run" competition.
The event is sponsored by Mountain Rides Transportation Authority and the Sun Valley Marketing Alliance. The competition is simple: Starting at noon at Ketchum Town Plaza, participants can bike or ride to nine designations to pick up a sticker to signify an errand. But participants only have an hour to complete the tasks and return to the Town Square for a free barbecue.
Fastest pedestrians and bike riders to complete the Errand Run will win prizes, including ice show tickets from Sun Valley Resort, day passes to the Wood River Community YMCA or Zenergy Health Club and Spa, one of the new 24-bus pass packs from Mountain Rides and gift certificates from Atkinsons' Markets.
As a comparison, someone in a vehicle will try to complete the same nine errands in the allotted time.
The event is being held to promote Mountain Rides' goal of getting people out of cars and using alternative transportation methods.
"Come out and have fun with your fellow bicyclists and walking community," said Eric Grootveld, Mountain Rides bicycle and pedestrian coordinator. "See how this event truly showcases how much more efficient it is getting around town by bicycle or on foot."
