Casino 15, KECH 0 (5 innings)

Regular-season league champion Casino, coming off its first loss of the season Wednesday night 13-12 to Firefighters, made sure of this one by limiting KECH to 2 hits, both by Sean Harrington (double). Gretchen Wagner (3 hits) and Bryan O'Connell (3 doubles) topped the 19-hit Casino attack from the #10 and #11 spots in the batting order. Casino: Matt Zachary 2 hits (double), Craig Morse 3 hits and 2 runs, Josh Jacobson HR, Mike Torres 3 runs.

Firefighters 12, Lefty's Bar & Grill 3

Defending tournament champion Lefty's started very slowly in this year's tournament, mustering only 11 hits with fleet-footed leadoff hitter Buffalo Rixon (3 hits, triple, 2 runs) doing most of the damage. Still, the Firefighters (22 hits) led only 3-2 in the fifth before exploding with a 4-run, 5-hit home fifth and 5-run, 8-hit sixth. John Rathfon (3 hits, 3 runs) clouted a 3-run HR to finish the fifth and Justin Herald (3 hits, 2 runs, 4 RBI) belted a 2-run single to cap the 5-run sixth. Herald also ripped a 2-run HR in the second putting the Firefighters on the board for the first time in the tournament. Firefighters: Matt Christian 3 hits (solo HR, double) and 2 runs, Morgan Uhrig 3 hits, and 2 hits each for Sue Mulcahy, Keith Potter (double), Steph Rowley (2 runs) and Becky Simpson.

Firefighters 22, Casino 11 (winner bracket final)

Having scored 34 runs in their last three games, the Firefighters hit their offensive peak with a 30-hit, 22-run outburst that started quickly with 5-run, 7-hit rallies in the first and second frames. Trailing 14-3 after three, the Casino never got into gear and finished with only 9 hits—5 of them coming in the 4-run fourth. The first two men in the Firefighters batting order, Matt Christian (5 runs, HR) and Keith Potter (4 runs, triple, 2 doubles), each finished 6-for-6. Firefighters: Sue Mulcahy 2 hits and 2 runs, Steph Rowley 2 hits and 3 runs, Becky Simpson 4 hits and 2 runs, Melinda Milner 3 hits (double), Justin Herald 4 hits (triple) and 3 runs, Steve McCoy 3 hits. LOSER BRACKET GAMES

Lefty's Bar & Grill 23, Elevate 3 (5 innings)

Lefty's started its 5-game, Saturday march back into the if-necessary championship game with 28 hits in just five at-bats sparked by leadoff hitter Buffalo Rixon (4 hits, double, 4 runs), shortstop Anthony Anderson (3 triples, 3 runs) and player-coach Dave Hausmann (4 hits, 3-run inside-the-park HR, double). Lefty's: Brenda Blackwell 2 hits and 3 runs, Shannon Baker 2 runs, M.J. Musselman 3 hits, Jamie Trevino 3 hits (2 doubles) and 3 runs, Levie Smith 3 hits (double) and 3 runs. Elevate managed only 6 hits, 2 by Growler Johnson plus doubles by Dirk Zondag and Cooper Minnis.

KECH by forfeit, 7-0, over Idaho Bioscience

Lefty's Bar & Grill 20, KECH 4 (5 innings)

Lefty's (25 hits) came out with another powerful offensive effort, putting it away with an 8-run, 8-hit second for an early 11-0 lead. Clutch 2-run singles in the big inning came from Tony Mallane (2 hits, triple, 2 runs) and Buffalo Rixon (4 hits, triple, 3 runs). Anthony Anderson (4 hits, 2 doubles, triple, 2-run HR, 4 runs) was a single shy of the cycle. Lefty's: Brenda Blackwell 2 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBI, Wendy Speth and M.J. Musselman 2 hits apiece, Kyle Rushton 3 hits (triple) and 2 runs, Shannon Webb and Levie Smith 2 hits each. KECH (11 hits): Scotty Carlson and Amanda Lyons 2 hits each, Trey Knox double, Kate Heinecke 2 RBI.

Lefty's Bar & Grill 13, Casino 11 (loser bracket final)

Things looked dire for Lefty's, trailing 11-8 with only 3 outs left in its season in the visitor seventh. But Lefty's struck for the decisive 5 runs on 7 hits in the seventh—starting it off with 5 consecutive hits by Jamie Trevino, Tawni Baker, Buffalo Rixon, Brenda Blackwell and Anthony Anderson (4-for-4, 2 doubles, 4 runs) and getting a huge 2-out, 2-run double for the eventual winning runs off the big bat of Jeff Burrell (3 hits, 2 doubles). Casino leadoff hitter Tom Moreland (3 hits) got his team going with his third double of the game in the home seventh, but winning pitcher Trevino enticed fly balls from the 2-3-4 batters in the potent Casino batting order to end the season for the top-seeded Casino. Lefty's: Wendy Speth 2 hits and 2 runs, Shannon Webb 3 hits, Kyle Rushton 2 hits (HR) and 2 runs. Casino: 2 hits apiece by Brenda Johnson, Matt Zachary (double, 2 runs), Sarah Torres (2 runs), Craig Morse (double, 2 runs), Josh Jacobson (HR) and Mike Torres (triple).

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES

Lefty's Bar & Grill 15, Firefighters 8

It was a 6-6 game after four frames, but Lefty's pulled ahead 10-6 with a 4-run fifth on doubles by Anthony Anderson (4-for-4, 4 runs), Jeff Burrell (3-for-3, 3 doubles, 3 runs, 6 RBI) and Dave Hausmann (4-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBI). Hausmann was a clutch hitter with a pair of 2-out RBI singles in the first and third getting Lefty's an early 5-3 lead. Jeff Burrell socked a 3-run HR in the seventh sending Lefty's ahead 15-6. The Firefighters didn't help their cause with 6 errors, and they coughed up 4 unearned runs. For the game, Lefty's outhit the Firefighters 23-16—giving the defending champions 97 hits in their four games after their 12-3 upset loss to Firefighters Friday night. Lefty's: Buffalo Rixon 3 singles, Wendy Speth 2 hits (double), Kyle Rushton 3 hits. Firefighters: Matt Christian 4-for-4 (double), Keith Potter 2 hits, John Rathfon 3 hits (double, 2-run HR), Justin Herald 4-for-4 (3-run HR).

Firefighters 6, Lefty's Bar & Grill 4 (championship)

Firefighters (5 errors, 11 in the two final games) kept having trouble defensively, but this time the miscues weren't magnified—thanks to an outstanding pitching effort by John Rathfon. He spotted Lefty's 4 runs in the first, 2 of them unearned, and then completely shut down the Lefty's attack (13 runs per game tournament) by holding them scoreless in the final six innings. Lefty's had 4 players in scoring position in the final six stanzas, including the potential game-tying runners at first and second in the home seventh, but the Firefighters defense came up big. Left fielder Matt Christian made 6 putouts in the final six frames and shortstop Justin Herald played flawlessly with 3 assists and 3 putouts including two twin killings. Rathfon (2-for-2, 3 RBI) blasted a 2-out, 2-run HR in the first and Herald scored the tying run at 4-4 all the way from second base on Rathfon's long sacrifice fly caught by Buffalo Rixon at the fence in the sixth. In the seventh, Firefighters pushed the decisive 2 runs across on Christian's leadoff walk, a 1-out double by Keith Potter (2 doubles) and a 2-out RBI double off the bat of Morgan Uhrig (3 hits). For Lefty's, which committed only 1 error in the 14 innings of championship play, shortstop Anthony Anderson (2 hits) was in the middle of three slick double plays and left fielder Jeff Burrell made a marvelous shoestring catch in the seventh with the outcome still hanging in the balance.
