My mother, Nancy Eccles Hayward, suffered a fatal heart condition at a young age of 73. The best medical facility suited for her round-the-clock care was two hours from my home. I drove two hours in each direction three times a week to spend a few hours a day holding her hand and reading to her and telling her how much I loved her. What I wouldn't have given to have had Croy Canyon Ranch in my backyard—a warm, loving place with the perfect skilled nursing staff to care for Mom in a place I could visit every day.
My father, Homer Hayward, lived to be 89. As his body started to fail him, he needed more and more care. I used to tell him it was an honor and a privilege to help him and return the endless love he had showered on myself and my siblings our whole life. We made certain that Dad was able to live with honor, dignity and independence every day. At times it felt like we needed a village to aid us and advise us, but we did it together.
The Nancy Eccles and Homer M. Hayward Family Foundation is proud to provide Croy Canyon Ranch Foundation with a grant for $250,000 to provide critical comprehensive care to seniors living in the Wood River Valley. Having a state-of-the-art facility minutes away from your extended family is a blessing without measure.
No one can anticipate what medical needs each of us will need as we get older, but we can all assume that at one point, we will need someone to lean upon and we will want a facility like Croy Canyon Ranch close at hand.
