Brush Fire Deemed To Be Arson

Three fire trucks from the Ketchum Fire Department were dispatched to a brush fire between state Highway 75 and the bike path south of Ketchum on Saturday afternoon. Fire Chief Mike Elle said one of several juveniles at the scene admitted to starting the fire and could be charged with second-degree arson, a felony. The department quickly extinguished the 20- by 30-foot fire and then spent an hour making sure it was out. “People need to know that even though it is green, it will burn,” Elle said. “It was hot, dusty and a little on the windy side. The cottonwood cotton burns just like gasoline.” Express photo by Willy Cook
