Big Top Comes To Carey

The Carson and Barnes Circus set up shop in Carey over the weekend and performed four shows to the delight of hundreds of spectators per show. The bright-red “big top” tent, decorated with blue stripes and white stars, enticed passersby to come in and view the show. The animals, including three elephants, two camels, a zebra and a large petting zoo of goats, llamas and even a “zonkey”—a cross between a zebra and a donkey—were a hit with children. Above, Isa the elephant and trainer Darren Carey provide elephant rides on Sunday afternoon. Right, the high-wire act known as the Tandaza Troupe performs Sunday. The wire was some 35 feet above the ground and the trio of performers accomplished several thrilling and skilled feats. Below, contortionist Kevin Sadrak purposely disjointed his shoulders, put his whole body through a tennis racket frame, stretched his body in ways that aren’t normal and culminated his act by fitting his entire body into a small, transparent box.
