As a longtime observer of the effort to relocate Friedman Memorial Airport in Hailey and the recent revelation of the $325 million price tag, I believe it is time to take a hard look at the viability of this effort.
The Federal Aviation Administration has indicated that a 50 percent contribution is possible, but an appeal to Washington will be needed to obtain a greater level of participation.
The Wood River community cannot support the price difference. The millions of taxpayer dollars and time spent on this effort should come to an end. Our efforts should be directed into utilizing and updating the existing airport.
