Ralph Harris deserves thanks

There was a wonderful series of events at the newly renovated National Guard Armory (now named the Hailey Readiness Center) over the Memorial Day weekend, not the least of which was the unveiling of an interior 10- by 30-foot mural painted by Ralph Harris, along with volunteers from the community.

Ralph is (as many know) fourth-generation Hailey, and one of our most esteemed valley artists. I would like to bring a couple of additional items to everyone's attention. In his brief talk at the ceremony, Ralph mentioned the "60-plus" volunteer hours that contributed to this project. What he didn't mention was that he easily invested five times that amount of time himself. Plus, there remain several weeks of additional work to complete the mural. And, Ralph hasn't yet received a dime for all his efforts.

There is a drive underway to raise a nominal honorarium for him, which would be a small token of appreciation for this great, lasting contribution to the community. Anyone wishing to contribute may contact Sgt. Ulysses Mittelstadt at the Armory, or Jim Spinelli at the Hailey Kiwanis Club.

Thank you, Ralph!
