The nexStage Theatre in Ketchum is busy and abuzz with actor and director Bill Raymond. Raymond, an artist-in-residence at the theater, has been working with valley actors for "A Little Night Laughter," to be staged June 1-5.
Raymond is director of the series of one-act comedies, including Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First," "Duck Variations" by David Mamet, "Mere Mortals" by David Ives and "The Actor's Nightmare" by Christopher Durang.
Actors to perform in "A Little Night Laughter" include Jonathan Kane, Scott Creighton, Steve d'Smith, Keith Moore, Claudia McCain, Charlotte Hemmings and Dana DuGan.
"I love it here," Raymond said. "It's a privilege to do this and I need to do it. It's a great thrill to see what you have envisioned when it all comes together with the technical aspects, the lights, set and music."
Raymond said he's going to put out on the stage what he sees. His ideas will include a hysterical interpretation of the classic work "Who's On First" as well as 14 variations on the theme of ducks in "Duck Variations." "Mere Mortals," which includes dialogue with construction workers, will resonate with many people and "The Actor's Nightmare" will also be a familiar situation that many people believe they have experienced as an actor or not.
"The state of theater these days is going very well," he said. "This is my work and it's something that is an absolute pleasure. Theater makes people feel better. It's live and you are only going to see it once."
Opening night on Wednesday, June 1, will include a champagne reception from 6-7 p.m. Tickets will be $15. On Thursday, June 2, through Sunday, June 5, tickets will be $20. All shows start at 7 p.m. For tickets, call 726-9124.
