Editor's note

Editor's note: The Express received about a dozen phone calls and five letters from various places in the country objecting to the editorial "Autistic teachers?" published on Wednesday, May 11. The editorial—composed by the newspaper's editorial board—gave the opinion that teachers asking for pay raises exhibited "a form of autism." The editorial in no way targeted people who suffer from diagnosed medical cases of autism. The Express apologizes to all readers who were offended by the comparison but stands by the premise of the editorial—that it is not appropriate for teachers and district employees to request and receive pay raises in the current political and economic climate.
