Editorial was disappointing

The "Our View" editorial I read online Wednesday ("Autistic teachers?") is especially disappointing because it appears following National Autism Awareness Month. The use of a vulnerable segment of our population in order that the writer may make a point about teacher salaries was unnecessary and irresponsible. The comments are not only a stereotype of people on the autism spectrum, they are a dishonor to all families of the disabled.

I prefer to think that there was no malice intended, since this does not reflect the insight, understanding and compassion that our community has come to expect from the Idaho Mountain Express. I encourage you to advocate for and dignify these individuals and the families who love them by reporting now about those impacted, their challenges and achievements, and the support available in our community.
