Sun Valley Opera names ambassador
The Sun Valley Opera has named Metropolitan Theatre Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Corwin as Sun Valley Opera Ambassador for 2011. The Sun Valley Opera and Metropolitan Theatre continue to present "The Met: Live in HD" series, which began in October 2010.
"The Met: Live in HD" presents Wagner's "Die Walkure," conducted by James Levine in a new production by Robert LePage on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at the Big Wood 4 Cinemas in Hailey. Tickets are available at the theater.
Little Black Dress Club gives grants
The Little Black Dress Club giving circle in the Wood River Valley has awarded some $11,400 in grants to six local nonprofit groups for the spring 2011 grant cycle. The recipients are: The Crisis Hotline, The Hunger Coalition, Girls on the Run, Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, Habitat for Humanity and NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness.
The awards will be given on Tuesday, May 31, at a cocktail reception at Ciro Market in Ketchum, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The public is invited and little black dresses are encouraged.
Little Back Dress Club members contribute annual dues of $300 and together have funded close to $23,000 to local organizations in less than two years. For details, visit lbdcwr.org.
Fundraiser to benefit swim program
Zenergy fitness center in Ketchum will host an open-house fundraiser to benefit the AquAbility program May 14-15. Zenergy will offer a $10 day pass to the club, which will include gym, classes and use of the pool. All proceeds will benefit AuqAbility.
Zenergy Masters swim coach Karen Morrison is the founder and coach of the AquAbility program, a nonprofit organization committed to providing therapeutic recreation through swimming for people with a variety of physical challenges. The goals of AquAbility are to foster physical and cognitive benefits, raise self-esteem, promote fitness, encourage and cultivate social interaction, improve quality of life and to allow for independence in the sport of swimming for physically challenged adults and children.
