Valley Club hosts its spring prep golf tourney

Hague leads Wolverines, Bruins take titles

The Valley Club is not the easiest golf course to play for Idaho prep athletes, but the cool spring weather cooperated Tuesday during the seven-school Wood River Classic.

In the boys' meet, the Twin Falls Bruins continued their march to the State 4A tournament with a 314-329 victory over second-place Canyon Ridge of Twin Falls, based on adding the 18-hole scores of the top four players on each team.

Individual medalists were Alec Perkins and Peter Seppi of Twin Falls, both with 76s.

The five Wood River boys all broke 100 starting with senior Davis Hague with an 86. Senior Doug King carded 90, sophomore Rickie Jeneson 95, senior Zach Thomas 98 and senior Charlie Evans 99.

As a team, Wood River (369) finished fourth behind Jerome (365) and ahead of Minico of Rupert (379) and the Blackfoot Broncos (416). Burley didn't field a complete team.

Twin Falls (359) also won the six-school girls' meet over Wood River (485) and Canyon Ridge (541). Wolverine girls' scores were Jennie Williams 92 for fourth place in the medalist race, Amanda Stelling 118, Alma Stosius 131 and Mary Petzke 144.

Next are two meets at Rupert Country Club—Thursday's Pre-District Golf Invitational and the state-qualifying 4th District 4A tourney Tuesday, May 10. State golf is May 16-17 at Centennial CC, Nampa.
