Find creativity through the Fools

Summer theater classes are a live learning experience

Do you have the desire to get on stage, learn an accent or express yourself? The Company of Fools is ready with it summer theater classes, "Act II" and "Creative Jump-Ins," July 11-28 at the Liberty Theatre and the Meriwether Building in Hailey. Act II classes are for adults 55 and over and Jump-Ins are for adults 17 or older.

"When Company of Fools began, education was a cornerstone for us," said Denise Simone, a core company artist. "Creative aging is very integral to our work and something we wanted to explore."

"Act II" will include the class "Stages of Memory." Simone will teach this four-week workshop on July 18, 20, 25 and 27 from 1-3 p.m. Exploring personal memories through theater exercises and weaving them into an engaging theatrical story. "ACT II" will provide participants with an experience of the highest quality. No prior theater experience is necessary.

"Jump-Ins" will offer a range of class experiences, including silk dying on July 6 and printmaking on July 7. Textile artist Deb Gelet will teach these classes, offered in conjunction with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. For details, call The Center at 726-9491.

"Jump-Ins" also will offer one-day classes, including "Character Building Blocks" on July 11; "Voice for the Actor," July 12; "Learning Your "5-6-7-8's"and "Your Do-Re-Mi's," July 13-14; "Putting It Together: Moving as You're Singing," July 19; "The King's Speech," July 21; "A Location, an Occupation & an Object," July 26; and "Say Yes to the Mess," July 28.

The song and dance classes fill up fast, Simone said.

"I find the participants in all of these classes teach me first," she said. "It's a dynamic group of people."

"Jump-Ins" teachers will include Andrew Alburger, Scott Creighton, Beth Hilles, Claudia McCain, Dennis Rexroad and R.L. Rowsey. The classes cost $25 each. Partial scholarships are available. For details, call 788-6520 or visit www.companyoffools.org.
