Boyd Leroy Stocking

Boyd Leroy Stocking, 81, of Carey, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center near Ketchum, Idaho. Boyd was born in Cascade, Idaho, on Dec. 16, 1929, the third child of James Leroy and Lucy Ann Egan Stocking. He and his two brothers and two sisters were raised in Burley, Idaho. The family moved to Carey in 1942 to a ranch in the Fish Creek area. They drove the distance and picked up others to attend school in Carey. He married Lois Mecham on July 4, 1949. They raised six children.

Boyd was a store clerk, a mechanic and a dairy farmer. He was a 4-H leader for 11 years. For 20 years he was the watermaster for the Little Wood River Irrigation District. He was a power plant operator for Bonneville Power, the Little Wood River Irrigation District, Barber Dam on the Boise River and the Dietrich plant on the Milner Canal. He later drove to Twin Falls to do maintenance work on the power plants in that area. He worked with people who have remained his friends. On Jan. 24, 2007, he was named to the Idaho Water Users Association Hall of Fame for long and distinguished service.

Boyd was a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed the time he spent with the fellows who gathered around the original "Round Table" and the Castle's Corner "Round Table."

Boyd is survived by his wife and five children: Boyd LaMont (Laverne) Stocking of Ephraim, Utah, Dale Alin (June) Stocking of Carey, Gale Aline (David) Patten of Nampa, Glenda LaRece (Sam) Egli of Naknek, Alaska, and James Douglas (Louise) Stocking of Flagstaff, Ariz.; his brother "Buz" (Nelda) Stocking of Twin Falls; and two sisters, Lois Mae (Tom) Jobe of Burley and Melba Marlene Peterson of Carey; 29 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 12 step-great grandchildren.
