Louise V. Habel

Louise V. Habel, 85, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at her home in Twin Falls, Idaho.

She was born on June 2, 1925, in Appleton City, Mo., to Clarence and Rose Garey, the ninth of 11 children. Her father died when she was 7 years old, and the family came west and settled in Filer, Idaho. She was raised in Filer and attended schools there where she was very active in high school and cherished those times. She attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., where she served as homecoming queen in high school and college. After college, she moved to San Francisco to assist with the war effort.

She then moved back to Idaho and married Junior H. (Butch) Isom on Oct. 16, 1945. To this union were born seven children: Gary (Sharon) Isom, Randolph H. Isom, Susan (Mick) Zenoniani, Buddy (Gay) Isom, Jeff Isom, Sherri (Greg) Jefferson, and Carol (Ed) Peters. They were later divorced. She married Martin Habel on April 8, 1961. To this union was born two children: Greg (Stephanie) Habel and Lori (Sam) Perez.

She had 15 grandchildren: Randy (Elizabeth) Isom, Jeff (Lisa) Isom, Chrissy (Joe) Kane, Jennifer (Rick) Bradshaw, Michael Zenoniani, Jody (Petra) Hurst, Jamie (Lyman) Bridge, Mark (Trina) Jefferson, Jake Jefferson, Marissa (Justin) Martino, Shaun (Kristina) Peters, Josh Peters, Allison Habel, Andy Habel and Bailee Habel. She had 13 great-grandchildren: Jack, Nicole, Samantha and Will Isom, Jalen and Brad Kane, Reese Bradshaw, Tanner and Livia Hurst, Lilianna and Parker Bridge, and Jaden and Lane Jefferson.

In 1963, she moved to Hailey, Idaho, where she and Martin eventually purchased the Mule Shoe Club, which was a popular night club for years in the Wood River Valley. She met and had many friends in the Hailey area. In 1974, they moved to Cascade, Idaho, where they resided for three years. In 1977, they settled in Twin Falls, Idaho, where she resided until her death. She worked for years at K-Mart and Woolworths in Twin Falls, from which she eventually retired.

She had a large and happy family, which she enjoyed immensely. The highlight of her day was talking and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her children were always involved in athletics and she always loved to watch and follow them. She was an avid baseball fan and loved the Atlanta Braves!

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Martin Habel, son Randolph H. Isom and 10 brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank Visions Hospice for their concerns and caring during the last few weeks.
