Pirates, Mushers run away with ISDB track

Carey athletes make podium on Gooding oval

Castleford senior sprinter Kale Weekes and Camas County junior all-around performer Katelyn Peterson were the top point-getters Wednesday during the ISDB Invitational track and field meet for 1A small schools in Gooding.

Weekes swept the 100-meter, 200m and 400m dashes and made it 32.5 points on the day with a leg on Castleford's win-ning sprint medley team. Pe-terson captured the 300m in-termediate hurdles and won long jump, triple jump (state-best 35-1) and high jump (5-4).

There were other rising stars as well. Hagerman fresh-man Kade Kress won the shot-put, placed second in 400m and contributed to two relay wins. Camas County junior Andrew Simon had a winning 6-2 high jump, third best among 1As, and Musher sophomore Jordan Robles took the discus in 132-0.

Carey's Panthers settled for two individual golds, Lorene Andrew's 94-7 discus throw and Micaela Adamson's 400m dash. Yet the Carey girls continued to march upward with some of Idaho's fastest 1A times in the relays—winning the 4x100m, 4x200m and sprint medley.

The Hagerman Pirates won the 15-school boys' meet 112.5 to 105 over Camas County, with the Carey Panthers third at 94.5 points. In the girls' standings, Camas County continued to lead the way with 99 points and Carey finished second with 85.

Distance runners adding wins were Richfield's Sasha Kent in 1600m (5:36) and 3200m (12:27.6), and Camas senior Bryan John 3200m (10:51).

For The Community School, sophomore sprinter Ellie Swanson had an excellent day with thirds in the 200m (28.8) and 400m (1:04.2, among the best State 1A times) plus a fourth place in the 100m (13.9).

TCS sophomore Maranda Stopol placed second in the 800m (2:45.2) and Hayley Rhein-schild earned a couple of sixths in 100m (14.9) and 200m (30.0). The Cutthroat sprint medley team featuring those three girls and Morgan Roudabush was third with a time of 2:09.2.
