At the Ketchum City Council meeting on Monday, May 2, there will be a presentation by the city attorney and the city administrator about the two forms of government allowed by state statute for our city. We currently operate under the mayor/council form of government. The other option is the council/manager form of government. A representative from the International City/County Management Association is scheduled to come.
Mayor Hall has assured me that the public will be allowed to ask questions and participate in the discussion in regard to the state statutes and, I assume, the issue in general.
Since its establishment, the council/manager form has become the most popular structure of local government in the United States, according to the association.
Aspen, Vail, Telluride, South Lake Tahoe, Park City and 16 other major resort cities in the West operate under the council/manager form of government. I expect this presentation and discussion to be interesting, educational and extremely helpful in guiding us as a community in deciding which form of government is best for the future of Ketchum.
Plan to attend Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Ketchum City Hall.
