Summertime at the Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum offers something different every week for kids to stay busy through Friday, Sept. 2.
A dozen different sessions are provided throughout the summer with each session spanning a week, and activities revolving around a different theme in each session.
For example, June 13-17 is the Superhero session. The next week is Get Creative, then Planet Green, Holiday mini-season, Foodalicious, Aqua Adventures and more.
Camps run daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and are split into groups of 5- to 7-year-olds and 8- to 11-year-olds. Pre-care begins at 8 a.m. and after-care extends to 5:30 p.m. Call ahead to reserve your session, 727-9622.
Those registering before May 16 will pay $180 per week for Y-member children and $220 for nonmembers. Prices thereafter increase by $20 and $15, respectively. Parents can also drop their kids into the camps for just a day at a time, costing $55 for members and $70 for nonmembers.
The Y also offers Climbing Camps in the same weekly session format for children ages 5-16.
Summer wouldn't be summer without swimming, and the Y has plenty of that.
Its Red Cross Swimming Lessons are split into three levels. The lowest is Water Exploration, teaching floating and kicking on children's front and backs while supported, safety and pool rules. The second level is primary skills, teaching floating but unsupported and introducing children to rotary breathing, freestyle and backstroke. The third level works on front and back crawl, diving, elementary backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke.
There are also lessons for "kids developmental" geared toward competitive swimming.
