If you've got one of those kids who can't pass a grazing horse without begging you to stop or has a horse on his or her Christmas wish list each year, their prayers have been answered.

You can send your kids to horse camp without all the hassles of horse ownership.

River Sage Stables, south of Bellevue, is holding a first-ever day camp for horse lovers of all make and measure, skill and style.

Kids will learn over the two-week session how to groom, clean and care for a horse and will ride every day. The horse will be provided by River Sage and matched according to the child's riding ability and goals.

Lunch will be provided and crafts and projects will be interspersed with the instruction, which will be both group and individual.

The camp ends with a rodeo on July 1.

Teacher Katie Flood said pulling together horse camp is hard to do and requires a lot of hands and eyes for safety, but that demand for a camp with an emphasis on entry-level riders has always been high.

The camp is about half full, and is limited to eight children, boys and girls ages 7-11. However they are thinking about expanding the plans to include some two-day clinics too.

There will be pickup and drop-off points in Bellevue, Hailey and Ketchum. The fee is $400 per week and includes lunch, horses, tack, materials and instructors.

River Sage can be found by turning off Gannett Road at Pero Road and making a left on Prairie Sun and following the signs. For details, contact Flood at 720-7749.
