Earth Day will take place Friday, April 22, and the Wood River Valley has plenty of activities to remind people to care for the planet. The Community Library in Ketchum will screen a free documentary on Aldo Leopold, "Green Fire," at 6 p.m. today, April 20.
"Green Fire" was produced in partnership among the Aldo Leopold Foundation, the Center for Humans and Nature, and the U.S. Forest Service. The film provocatively examines Leopold's thinking, renewing his idea of a land ethic for a population facing 21st-century environmental challenges. Leopold's biographer, conservation biologist Curt Meine, serves as the film's on-screen guide.
The city of Hailey's Just Bag It program will give away reusable bags at Albertsons, King's and the Hailey Atkinsons' on Thursday, April 21. In addition, youth from across the valley will volunteer to educate the public about the implications of plastic bag use, and to help distribute reusable bags to the community.
The Hailey Community Climate Challenge will present an EcoBag Workshop to knit your own string shopping bag at The Loft on 202 N. Main St., Suite B, in Hailey on Saturday, April 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop is free. To reserve space, call 788-9654.
