Led by the scoring of Tess O'Sullivan Fryberger (4 goals, 7 assists) and Sara Schroeder (5 goals, 1 assist), the Five Star Kitchen Design women's ice hockey team won the "B" divi-sion championship of the Ogden Icebreaker Sunday.
Five Star Kitchen Designs, based at Sun Valley Skating Center, went 3-0-1 in four games over three days includ-ing Sunday's 7-1 championship game triumph over the Salt Lake Black Diamonds. Schroe-der and Fryberger each scored twice in the finale.
It was a dominating effort by Five Star, which outscored its opponents 18-5 and out-shot them 147-52. In Five Star's final two wins, the Ketchum women out-shot opponents 81-17. Ketchum goalie Danae Com-mons (47 saves) was relatively quiet but came up big.
The defensive pairs of Jen Embree-Bege Reynolds and Nellie Brown-Nancy Parsons-Brown kept other players away from Commons and were very strong when it counted.
Five Star's toughest test was its first, a 3-2 win over Utah Lady Grizzlies Friday. Recent Community School grad Nellie Brown scored the game-winning unassisted goal with 3:50 left for the pivotal win. Goals by Schroeder and Em-bree erased a 1-0 deficit. Ketchum out-shot Utah 38-15.
Schroeder's two goals, both assisted by O'Sullivan Fryber-ger, earned a 2-2 tie with Provo Blades. Needing a goal-differential of five or better to make the title game, Five Star surpassed that figure with a 6-0 win over Wasatch Wings.
Adding goals in the 7-1 title game win over Black Diamonds were Ketchum veterans Dotty Sarchett (first goal, opening the floodgates), Tristan Gralenski and Jini Griffith.
