Hats off, as Janss Pro-Am sells out with 28 teams

Benefit event April 7-9

The 14th annual Janss Pro-Am Classic set for April 7-9 and sponsored by Stifel Nicolaus Weisel, has sold out with 28 teams, according to Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation events director Kate Berman.

She said, "As in years past, expect terrific rivalries and over-the-top enthusiasm. This year's Janss' theme is "Hats"....Hats off to Sun Valley Resort's 75 anniversary season.

"Team entries such as Bill's Mad Hatters, Sun Valley Serenade, Union Pacific, Seattle City Slickers, 6 at Sochi and Alpine Rodeo will all be racing to raise funds for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation."

An eclectic mix of pros includes five-time Olympic and X Games skier cross king Casey Puckett, Olympians Christin Cooper and Sondra VanErt; local freeskiing champion Will Burks; alpine and water ski champion Bob LaPoint; and five-time Nordic Combined Olympian Todd Lodwick.

Berman said, "The SVSEF has introduced a new component to the Janss Pro-Am—Junior Pros. In addition to a Pro and four racers, every team is assigned a current SVSEF athlete as Junior Pro. The SVSEF is incorporating its athletes this way so Janss teams and supporters can interact with the SVSEF athletes."

Named for Bill Janss, former owner of Sun Valley Resort, the event raises funds to support over 500 young athletes who participate on the SVSEF alpine, cross-country, freestyle and snowboard teams.
