Sofa Kings stay on heels of Casino Bears

Town Series down to final week March 30


For the fourth straight week, the Sofa Kings didn't lounge around during the 20th annual Town Series dual modified giant slalom races on Baldy's Cozy ski run. But Casino Dancing Bears are still dancing fast.

Casino Dancing Bears put up their third 0.00 afternoon of the winter Wednesday and stayed ahead of second-place Sofa Kings in the standings of the 31-team racing league. The Town Series wraps up Wednesday, March 30 on Baldy.

The Casino (0.79 points season) cemented their lead over Sofa Kings (3.25) and third-place Pulling Out's for Quitters (6.85), who also posted their third 0.00 score Wednesday. On the outside looking in are fourth-place Tekasoreasses (7.38) and fifth-place Scums of the Pioneers (8.32).

Casino Dancing Bears has Neil Jessen, Kevin Doyle, Paige Griffith and Franny Hjort. Sofa Kings are Barrett Molter, Ted Tuma, Lenny Joseph and Bob Buchanan. Pulling Out has Brett Jacobson, Pete Stevenson, Tyler Corrock and Billy Cook.

In individual racing, Carl Rixon Jr. led a season high 124 skiers with the best single run of 25.43 seconds. Rabbit score was 35.46, Toby Arnett and Ken Edwards coming closest.

Top racers (top 5 same as the last races March 2): 1—Carl Rixon Jr. (Tekasoreasses) 25.43. 2—Robin Sarchett (Glow Power) 26.65. 3—Matt Murphy (Tekasoreasses) 26.76. 4—John Campbell (Team Ski Tek) 27.11. 5—Cameron Fraser (Scums of the Pioneers) 27.96.

6—Nate Schwing (SVSEF) 28.25. 7—Mike Gowe (CBG-Flat Out Ridiculous) 28.58. 8—John Lee (Glow Power) 28.86. 9—Charlotte Gourlay (Ketch'us at PKs) 28.99. 10—Jan Hegewald (CBG-Flat Out Ridiculous) 29.42.

Finale is the combined two-run GS March 30 (party at Warm Springs Lodge to help celebrate Sun Valley's 75th anniversary of skiing). The names of 20 racers from the top five teams in the series are entered into a drawing for the top prize of four Sun Valley 2011-12 season ski passes.
