It's always a good gig when Paul Tillotson brings his friends to Sun Valley. After a five-year hiatus from the area, the New York Connection has been reunited for shows at the Boiler Room on Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The band is made up of Tillotson on keyboards, James Wormworth on drums, Mike Merritt on bass, Pete Francis on guitar and vocals, Jake Stigers on guitar and vocals, Craig Dreyer on saxophone and vocals and Brooke Lundy on vocals.
Tillotson, Wormworth and Merritt are members of The Love Trio and will play the rhythm section. The New York Connection's singers and songwriters are Francis, a member of the band Dispatch, Stigers, a rock 'n' roll legend, Dreyer, a Grammy-award winner, and Lundy, who at 15 performed on "Star Search" with Ed McMahn.
"The New York Connection is rock 'n' roll," Tillotson said. "All of us have worked together independently over the last 15 years."
Stigers, a neighbor of Tillotson's in New York City's East Village, said the New York Connection is bringing soul back to Sun Valley.
"People who come to the show will see the best night of music they will ever see in their lives," Stigers said. "This will be talked about for years."
Tillotson said the band has not played together since 2005 in the Sun Valley Inn Limelight Room. Wormworth and Merritt play on the "Conan O'Brien Show" and Eigers has been doing tours in London.
In addition, Francis has been playing with a reunited Dispatch, which has sold out Red Rocks shows in Colorado.
"We are going to play everyone's original tunes and rock 'n' roll tunes," Tillotson said. "It will be an original rock 'n' roll review."
Tickets each night are $15. For details, call 622-2148.
