Casino Bears dance into Town Series lead

Fifth week of GS racing


     The Casino Dancing Bears are alone at the top, and Sofa Kings made a move Wednesday in the fifth event of the seven-event Town Series dual modified giant slalom races on Baldy.

     Casino (0.52 Wednesday) had the third-best score of the 31 teams and stayed under the 1.00-point level over five weeks. Previous leader Scums of the Pioneers took it on the chin with a hefty 3.23 total and fell to second.

     Five-week cumulative scores of the top five Town Series teams after Wednesday’s racing on Cozy ski run are Casino Dancing Bears 0.79, Scums of the Pioneers 3.23, Sofa Kings 3.25 with an excellent 0.16 afternoon, Tekasoreasses 5.31 and CBG-Flat Out Ridiculous 6.25.

     Casino Dancing Bears features Neil Jessen, Kevin Doyle, Paige Griffith and Franny Hjort. On Sofa Kings are Barrett Molter, Ted Tuma, Lenny Joseph and Bob Buchanan. Scums of the Pioneers are Cameron Fraser, Chase Gouley, Jason Haase and John Christensen.

     Last Minute Charlies is dead last with 28.30, but the team of Edna Benziger, Ron Barclay, Roger Lowder and Denise DeCoster did enjoy a decent day with a 1.30 score.

     In the individual racing, Carl Rixon Jr. led 113 skiers with the best single run of 25.26 seconds. Rabbit score was 32.95, Chris Key hanging that up on his second of two runs.

     Top racers: 1—Carl Rixon Jr. (Tekasoreasses) 25.26. 2—Robin Sarchett (Glow Power) 25.46. 3—Matt Murphy (Tekasoreasses) 26.12. 4—John Campbell (Team Ski Tek) 26.97. 5—Cameron Fraser (Scums of the Pioneers) 27.33.

     6—Jan Hegewald (CBG-Flat Out Ridiculous) 27.51. 7—Ashley Brown (SVSEF) 27.85. 8—Brett Jacobson (Pulling Out’s for Quitters) 27.95. 9—Sarah Mazzola (SVSEF) 27.99. 10—Chase Gouley (Scums) 28.04.

     The series takes a week off and resumes March 16 with the party at Lefty’s Bar & Grill. Final event is the combined two-run finale March 23 (party at Warm Springs Lodge to celebrate Sun Valley’s 75th).
