Freestylers head to Steamboat for JOs

Busy time for Park & Pipe team


Andy Ware, Freestyle Team Program Director, received word today that 18 Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation athletes have qualified for the U.S. Freestyle Junior Olympics in Steamboat, Colo. March 7-13.

Ware said, "For our program to have 18 athletes ranked among the best juniors in the country in something our community can be proud of."

To qualify for JO's you must be one of the best freestyle skiers under the age of 18—top 50 in halfpipe and slopestyle, top 60 in moguls, and top 48 in dual moguls. The SVSEF Freestyle Junior Olympic Team is:

Hannah Haupt (halfpipe, moguls, dual moguls; Alysha Herich (HP, slopestyle); Parker Nance (HP, SS); Claire Siderman (M); Morgan Shaver (M); Renee Shapiro (HP, M); Zana Davey (M, DM); Tai Barrymore (HP); Trevor Hattabaugh (SS, M, DM and aerials); Ben Parker (SS, HP); Nathan Moses (HP); River Kelly (HP); Trevor Norris (M, DM); RJ Bracken (M, DM); Joey Richardson (, DM); Tanner Bringhurst (M); Zac Maricich-Siele (HP); and Luke Robertson (HP). Traveling with the team will be coaches Joey Cordeau (M) and Al Lanning (Park & Pipe).

Also, four team members who qualified to compete at the U.S. Freestyle National Championships March 25-28 at Stratton Mountain, Vt. are Hannah Haupt, Ben Parker, Trevor Hattabaugh and Tai Barrymore.

Coach Ben Verge will join Barrymore and skier Brita Sigourney for the upcoming European X Games. Barrymore will also compete in the World Cup halfpipe finals in Europe.

Division finals in Utah

Tai Barrymore won the halfpipe event Sunday, Feb. 27 at the Intermountain Division Championships in Park City, Utah where Sun Valley Park & Pipe athletes competed. Haupt (HP) and Hattabaugh (1st J2 slopestyle) placed first overall.

Other top results: Slopestyle, River Kelly 5-J3; Alysha Herich 2-J3; and Parker Nance 3-J4; halfpipe, Ben Parker 4th overall (1-J2), Hattabaugh 5th overall (2-J2), River Kelly 7th overall (2-J3), Alysha Herich 3-J3 and Parker Nance 2-J4.
