Jensen leads women in Payette Lakes

At the 30k distance

Eleven Wood River Valley cross-country skiers made the trip to McCall Saturday, Feb. 19 for the 30th annual Payette Lakes Ski Marathon on 30-kilometer and 15k courses at Bear Basin Nordic Center.

Hailey's Liv Jensen and Ketchum's Laura Theis finished 1-2 in the women's 30k freestyle race. Ketchum's John King was fourth of 41 men in the men's 30k skate, and Hailey's Marilyn Celano was silver medalist in women's 15k classic.

There were 59 finishers in the 30k skate race, 32 at the 15k skate distance and seven in the 15k classic.

Other locals making the podium in their age classes included Susan Thoreson, Kris Thoreson, Richard Knoebel, Jim McClatchy, Jon Holmquist and Tullio Celano.

Here are the top finishers and Wood River results:

Women's 30k skate: 1—Liv Jensen 1.43:59 (1st 40-44, 10th overall). 2—Laura Theis 1.56:07 (1st 25-29, 21st overall). 6—Susan Thoreson 2.02:43 (2nd 50-54). 15—Carol Rank 2.19:12 (4th 50-54)—18 finishers.

Men's 30k skate: 1—Matt Grover of Boise 1.31:21. 2—Daryl Hegerle of Boise 1.32:40. 4—John King 1.38:24 (2nd 35-39). 7—Kris Thoreson 1.42:21 (1st 50-54). 10—Richard Knoebel 1.45:43 (1st 55-59). 11—Jim McClatchy 1.46:47 (2nd 55-59). 17—Jon Holmquist 1.53:25 (3rd 55-59). 36—Tullio Celano 2.13:44 (2nd 65-69)—41 finishers.

Women's 15k classic: 1—Laurel Smith of Boise 1.25:08. 2—Marilyn Celano 1.29:22 (1st 60-69).
