Robert McKay Boughton

Robert McKay Boughton M.D., 93, of La Jolla, Calif., passed away on Jan. 21, 2011, of natural causes. Born and raised in Erie, Pa., on May 3, 1917, to Guy Cluxton Boughton M.D. and Florence McKay Boughton, he married Ann Elizabeth Little of London, Ontario, on July 1, 1944. Upon dis-charge from the medical corps in Korea, he began his urology practice in La Jolla in 1952. Over the next 25 years, he served his community as chief of staff and president of the board of trustees at Scripps Memorial Hospital, president of Rotary and president of the Western section of the Ameri-can Urological Association. After retirement, he and Ann moved to Sun Valley, Idaho, for 20 years until her death in 1998. He returned to La Jolla and Borrego Springs, Calif., where he lived his last 10 years with Beckie Beven.

Always looking on the bright side, he was fond of painting, golf, travel, nature and humor.

In addition to Ann, he was predeceased by his son Stephen. He is survived by his children Heather, Susan and Scott, as well as 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at La Jolla Cove Bridge Club at 3 p.m. on March 12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to The Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org, account No. 1184716).
