A week of speed and surprises at Big Sky

SVSEF speed group competes in FIS races

Twelve J1 (ages 17-18) and J2 (15-16) racers on the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation's alpine team have been at Big Sky, Mont. over the past week, competing in the Western Region Open Speed Series of races.

Coach Nate Schwing said, "SVSEF athletes are turning heads" with their solid skiing in the super giant slalom and downhill. As of Sunday, they completed three of four scheduled races with the fourth moved to Monday due to the weather.

"We've seen everything from -27F to 17 F with six inches of new snow and high winds," said Schwing. J1s Tanner Farrow, Miles Sweek and Sierra Fox posted top-10 class placings and Nicole Roos continued her consistent skiing in J2 speed.
