Public invited to ‘Walt’s Wingding’

Femling retirement party set for Feb. 26

Express Staff Writer

Walt Femling

The public is invited to a retirement party for Blaine County Sheriff Walt Femling on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Officially dubbed "Walt's Wingding," the event is scheduled from 7-11 p.m. at River Run Lodge in Ketchum.

"After 24 years as sheriff, Walt deserves a proper sendoff," said Holly Carter, a Sheriff's Office command staff assistant who is helping organize the event.

Femling's role as sheriff will come to an end on March 1. He announced his retirement in January, citing health reasons.

The Blaine County Republican Central Committee is reviewing applications from eight county residents who have applied to become the new sheriff. The committee will narrow the list to three sometime this month for submission to the Blaine County Commissioners, who will make the final selection.

Femling's retirement party will feature a no-host bar. Appetizers will be provided.

Organizers are seeking donations to help pay for the event. To make a donation, or for more information, contact Carter at 788-5536 or Ginger Clement at 788-5563.

"Help us give Walt a proper sendoff by stopping by with a favorite memory, a warm toast or a great story," states a flyer advertising the event.
