Traveling to Soldier Hollow, Utah for the second of three 2011 Junior National qualifying competitions were 40 SVSEF junior racers led by Annie Pokorny, Maggie Williams and Max Christman.

Older Junior racer Annie Pokorny, 18, won Saturday’s women’s 10-kilometer classic race with a time of 31:32, 23 seconds ahead of Michaela Frias of Steamboat Springs. In fifth place of 74 finishers was SVSEF J1 Sloan Storey in 33:03.

In Friday’s sprints, Pokorny won the OJ/J1 women’s “A” final, while teammates Storey and Kelsey Dickinson finished first and fourth in the “B” finals of the top class. Williams was second to McCall’s Anika Miller in the J2 “A” final.

Sun Valley’s older boys dominated the OJ/J1 “B” sprint final with Scotty Phelan, Daniel Sundali and Brandon Wade placing 1-3-6.

As a Super Qualifier, the Soldier Hollow races welcomed teams and skiers from outside the Intermountain Division. Teams from Colorado, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and California competed. There were 630 skiers Saturday.

The final JN qualifying events and selection of the 2011 Intermountain Division team to Junior Nationals in Minneapolis, Minn. March 6-12 will be made after the Sun Valley qualifying races Feb. 12-13 at Lake Creek north of Ketchum.
