Evan Lysacek praises Sun Valley

2010 Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek named Sun Valley as his favorite ice rink in USA Today's travel section on Friday, Jan. 14. Lysacek said the resort's history lends a special feeling to skating on its ice. "Every Hollywood celebrity from the last 75 years has walked through the halls and put on skates," he said. He ranked the Sun Valley ice as a favorite among other notable public rinks, including those at Rockefeller Center and the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.

Heart of the Valley deadline is today

The Wood River Land Trust's seventh annual Heart of the Valley contest deadline for photos and writing submissions is today, Jan. 21, at 5 p.m. at the Wood River Land Trust office, 119 E. Bullion St. in Hailey. For guidelines for photography and writing submissions, see www.woodriverlandtrust.org, call 788-3947 or e-mail info@woodriverlandtrust.org. An awards reception will take place Friday, Feb. 18, at Tully's in Ketchum during Gallery Walk from 5-8 p.m.

Experience the beat of On Ensemble

The Sun Valley Center for the Arts will present On Ensemble, which will perform its fusion mix of taiko drumming with hip-hop, rock, electronica and other modern music influences at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum tonight, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for Center members and $30 for nonmembers. Animal tracking is winter fun

The Environmental Resource Center will hold an animal-tracking workshop on Saturday, Jan. 22, from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free for ERC members and $10 for nonmembers and $20 for families. Bring lunch and snowshoes and meet at the ERC office 471 N. Washington Ave., between Fourth and Fifth streets in Ketchum. To register, call 726-4333.

Winter Feast for the Soul continues

The 40-day worldwide spiritual event that began in the Wood River Valley takes place through Wednesday, Feb. 23. Daily meditation sites have been organized in Ketchum and Hailey. To find daily meditation sites visit, www.mtexpress.com/calendar/events/.
