Things to (re)consider

By CHRIS MILLSPAUGH

According to astronomy instructor Park Kunkle of Minneapolis, not only are astrologers one month off in their zodiac signs, there are now 13 zodiac signs instead of 12. That's right. A 13th constellation, Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer, has been acknowledged for those born from Nov. 30 to Dec. 17. And that means everyone moves up one. If you are a Virgo, you are now a Libra. If you are a Leo, you are now a Virgo, and so on. Everything that has been predicted for you has been wrong. If love, money and career are highlighted in your horoscope readings to be grand this month, expect to have your heart broken, your bank account swamped and your job in danger. To deal with this, your only choice is to refute this entire report. If you live by the stars and take their counsel, you might want to reconsider.

Then, there's Oprah. She has just bought an entire network and it's all about her, what she stands for, what and whom she recommends and her advice on how to proceed with one's life. Doesn't this appear to be dangerous? If you're rich enough, you can buy a television network and expound your views. Oh, wait a minute. Isn't that what R. Murdock did with the FOX network? Isn't this what the left-wing radicals and the right-wing radicals have done to the radio waves? If you listen to one point of view and take their counsel, you might want to reconsider.

Tired of Facebook? Tired of amassing friends and babble? A friend of mine suggests there should be a new web page, "Face-Off," the anti-social network. With this one you confront everyone you don't like and tell them off to their "Face" while you amass enemies on your home page. If you want to promote even more hate in the world and ignore all counsel, you might want to reconsider.

Maybe we should think independently, listen to our hearts, filter all points of view and be true to ourselves. Deep down you know what is right. Consider it.

Nice talking to you.
