Robert Roy Guffy, 88, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Bob was born in Lilbourne, Mo., to James and Ida Guffy on Oct. 17, 1922. Bob had five brothers and four sisters.
Bob's father passed away when he was around 8 years old. His older brothers had already moved out to Richfield and Picabo to work on ranches and they returned to Missouri to move their Mom, Ida, and younger siblings to Picabo. Bob finished his schooling in Hailey and began work in Picabo for the Purdy family, where he ran the Picabo grain elevator. Bob married Alberta Ashton in 1952. Together they ran a business in Carey. Next, Bob worked as a business agent for the union in Pocatello for a few years. Then the family moved back to Bellevue where Bob worked at union construction jobs until he retired.
Bob and Bertie enjoyed a few winters in Arizona fishing, playing cards and visiting with friends. Hunting and fishing were Bob's favorite pastimes.
Bob is survived by "the catch" of his life, Alberta of Bellevue; two sons, Lyle (Jean) of Clayton and Jay (Kandy) of Bellevue; two sisters, Lillian Spears of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Lillie Mae Dixon of Pocatello. Bob loved his four children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Magic Reservoir this summer.
Cremation is under the care of Wood River Chapel. Friends are invited to share memories and condolences with the family at www.woodriverchapel.com.
