Dance, laugh and keep warm


The Ugly Valley Boys from Salt Lake City will play Whiskey Jacques’ on Friday, Jan. 14.

The live music scene in the valley is starting to rev up for the winter season. This weekend come out to Whiskey Jacques' to hear the duo The Ugly Valley Boys, from Salt Lake City on Friday, Jan. 14. A stripped-down and soulful mix of American roots music, The Ugly Valley Boys play their own version of rockabilly. Ryan Eastlyn plays guitar and kick-drum and sings, and Matt "Dinny" Dinsdale plays upright bass.

On Saturday, Jan. 15, Whiskey's will present Wrecked, a showcase of music. The evening will feature Sab the Artist aka Musab, Mr. Chief, Protoman and DJ Snug the Joiner. All shows at Whiskey Jacques' begin at 10 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.

In Bellevue, the valley's own Old Death Whisper will play at the Silver Dollar on Friday, Jan. 14, at 9 p.m.

In Sun Valley, the Boiler Room will feature free laughs with Mike Murphy every Wednesday night at 6 p.m. through the winter season. In addition, The Fabulous Vuarnettes will perform every Thursday night at 6 p.m. through the winter season. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The Winter Comedy Series will feature Leif Skyving and Heath Harmison on Friday, Jan. 14, and Saturday, Jan. 15. All shows are at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. On Sundays in the Boiler Room, come see "Forever Plaid" at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

In the Duchin Lounge, listen to music by the Paul Tillotson Trio from 5:15-8:45 p.m. and the Joe Fos Trio from 9 p.m. to close Tuesday through Saturday through the winter season. On Mondays, Alan Pennay will play from 5:15-8:45 p.m. and the Sun Valley Trio with John Northrop on guitar will play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. In addition, the Leana Leach Trio will play 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays.

Also don't miss Brooks Hartell on piano Mondays through Saturdays at 5 p.m. in the Sun Valley Inn Lobby Lounge.
