It's that time of year for the Company of Fools to present Chicago's legendary comedy theater company, The Second City. The Second City will perform on Thursday, Jan. 13, and Friday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey. Tickets are $35 for lower reserved seating and $25 for balcony reserved seating, and are on sale now. Tickets are available at Company of Fools' box office at the Liberty Theatre, 110 N. Main St. in Hailey, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be ordered online at companyoffools.org or charged by phone during box office hours at 578-9122.

The Second City is always a sure sellout at the Liberty Theatre because it's one of the best traveling comedy troupes in the U.S. The tour is known to feature the likely next generation of comic greats.

The comedians will perform a diverse array of sketches and songs, as well as off-the-cuff improvisation, which is often unexpected comic brilliance. From the battle of the sexes to the battles at the voting booth, The Second City provides a hilarious and insightful look into contemporary American culture.

It all started in a converted Chinese laundry on Chicago's north side in 1959. No one could know that by the next century, The Second City would have established itself as the premier comedy institution in the world. The Second City grew to establishing training centers within theatres in Chicago, Toronto, Detroit and Las Vegas.

In Los Angeles, The Second City has a corporate division offering creative services to the business world, a television and film division and touring troupes that bring their unique brand of improv-based sketch comedy from all over the world. The New York Times called The Second City "a comedy empire."

The touring troupes at The Second City have been the springboard for generations of the comedy world's best and brightest. Its alumni include Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, John Candy, Martin Short, George Wendt, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Chris Farley, Ryan Stiles, Mike Myers, Rachel Dratch and Tina Fey.

No topic or subject matter is off limits for The Second City, so expect to laugh and to be shocked.
