Clarence A. (Chuck) Grubb, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010. He was born Jan. 4, 1919, in May, Idaho, the son of Arthur and Dora Christian Grubb. He married Myrtle C. Hanson on Oct. 5, 1941.
Chuck graduated from the University of Idaho with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He joined the Navy when World War II began and spent the next 23 years in the service of his country. It was a wonderful career that included obtaining a master's degree in bioradiology from Berkeley. He worked with other Navy personnel on the hydrogen and atomic bomb tests in Nevada and the South Pacific. He retired in 1964 as a captain in the Civil Engineer Corps.
After a seven-year stint at Stanford Research Institute as director of housing research, he moved to Ketchum in 1972. He started building homes, apartments and condos. In 1977, he and a few partners purchased the Woodside subdivision. He spent many happy years developing an area in the valley for affordable housing.
Survivors include his three daughters, Nancy Simpson of Sacramento, Calif., Judy Castle of Bellevue and Jean Eagleston of La Conner, Wash.; grandchildren, James Hartley of Granby, Mass., Richard Hartley of Mukwonago, Wisc., and Alisa Eagleston of Redwood, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren.
Following cremation, his ashes will be buried in the spring at the May Cemetery in the Pahsimeroi Valley.
