Jason Spooner and band mates Adam Frederick and Reed Chambers have been touring the U.S. with their new CD release "Sea Monster" with much success. The band plays in Sun Valley at the Sun Valley Resort Boiler Room Sunday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
"Its American roots music with focus on song writing," Spooner said. "I didn't set out to have a band. I was happy being solo, but the band happened naturally and it's a lot more fun especially to have the camaraderie on the road."
The Portland, Maine-based band has been traveling nationally, playing a wide variety of venues from ski resorts to clubs to festivals and music halls. Spooner on guitar and vocals, Frederick on bass and vocals, and Chambers on drums and percussion play all-original music.
The band has a variety of influences from jazz to Neil Young as well as Johnny Cash and Bob Marley. Spooner and his band have opened for Martin Sexton, Ray Lamontagne, Jackie Green, Joan Osborne and Guster.
"Out West people are open to new kinds of music," Spooner said. "It must be their pioneer spirit, which is why we make the effort to come out here."
