Ho, Ho, Ho To Jack Williams Turning 80

Express photo by David N. Seelig Jack Williams, aka Santa Claus, celebrates his 80th birthday, today, Jan. 5. Williams’ face is familiar for the holidays in the Wood River Valley, widonning the suit of Santa Claus, which he said has been a thrill to do for more than 30 years. He arrived in Ketchum in 1977, and has worked as a commercial photographer and filmmaker and taught photography classes. He said Sun Valley is the ideal place for him because of its beauty. He said he first saw “Sun Valley Serenade” as a little boy and always wanted to live in Sun Valley. “You live here to be healthy,” he said. “It’s just the way people are here.” Williams will celebrate his birthday at the Sawtooth Club in Ketchum on Friday, Jan. 7, from 5-7 p.m. He said he does not want any present—only people’s presence. Williams said he looks forward to good things to come for 2011 and has seen many signs that this year will be rejuvenating.
