Valerie A. McCarthy passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at St. Luke's Boise Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, from heart complications.
Valerie was born Nov. 9, 1960, in Sun Valley, Idaho, to Dick and Bobbie Alfs. She was born and raised a true "local" 110 percent and graduated from Wood River High School in 1979. Val was a loving mother, wife, sister and aunt. She loved hanging out with the family, camping, barbecuing in the backyard and socializing with all, and she loved every animal she encountered, including her three dogs and five cats. People who knew Val would wait in line despite there being open lanes to hear her latest adventure or story.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Bobbie Alfs. She is survived by her husband, Paul McCarthy; son, Chris McCarthy; daughter, Dominique (D.D.) McCarthy of East Fork; as well as her sister Susan Alfs, brother Edward Alfs and niece Lacie Alfs of West Ketchum.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Our Lady of the Snows. Interment will be at the Ketchum Cemetery followed by a reception at the Ketchum American Legion Hall.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley , Box 1496, Hailey, Idaho, in Val's name.
